WHAT 'SHOULD' YOU BE DOING? ARE YOU DOING IT?
Are the chances high, you're not? How do I know that? Because you're there (hello moxie) reading this page.
The majority of people that swing by Living Moxie often feel like they are destined for something else in life but they just can't figure out what it exactly is, or they aren't sure how to put it into words, or where to begin.
And, yes, sadly, some do think that it's too late for them, that they have missed the love to do bus travelling to doing stuff that matters land and aligns with who they are, or they think they are too old, or it's highly unlikely they will never find the missing piece of this imaginary puzzle they have created for themselves.
More often than not, people haven't got a clue what they want. It's pretty challenging working out what you should be doing when you have no idea who you are, what matters to you or what makes you tick.
The world is filled with careers courses and workshops helping us to align who we are with what we get paid to do, however, Do What You Love to Do isn't solely about the pennies. I believe that you, me, all of us have unique gifts, talents, and skills and that using them to create, be and do is doing what we love.
FOR MANY OF US ALIGNING WHO WE ARE WITH WHAT WE 'DO' IN THE WORLD, ISN'T A CHOICE, IT'S THE ONLY OPTION.
Are you asking what's next for you? Are you stuck slap bang in between a job you loathe and an idea you want to create? Have you been asking more of yourself? Frustrated because you have no idea how on earth you make the transition to bringing your gifts, talents, and skills out to play in the world?
Some people say doing what you love is unrealistic. Some say we can’t because of the economy. Others say that we all can’t expect to get paid for using our gifts, talents, skills. What the hell are we here for then? To work 100,000 hours to be miserable? No-thank-you-very-much.
Aligning who you are with what you do is not limited to what you are paid to do. It’s much deeper.
Maybe you have a string of reasons and excuses that need to be shifted, perhaps you’ve learned self-sabotage, self-doubt, and scarcity – with no actual hard evidence except what others have told you – and you need to undo those myths and stories and start telling yourself one of empowerment, possibilities, commitment and focus.
When people ask, ‘What do you do?’, it’s true we often answer with what we get paid to do. What we ‘work at’ appears to be one of the criteria of how we define others, and how we identify with ourselves.
I don’t believe for a second that who we really are is what we are paid for.
But. And yes, it’s a big but …
What we are paid for, what we do in ‘work’, how we spend our time does shape our soul: the highs, the lows, the moment by moment experiences, the loves, the hates, the skills used – and those ignored or forgotten – and the time we spend on the ‘doing’ does impact our understanding of who we think we are, and the world around us and our ‘being’.
Work or what we ‘do’ – although it’s not who we are – does give us a sense of identity, belonging, an idea of our place in the world.
It makes complete sense to me that while we are a human being just doing our thing, it’s going to be a heck of a lot more enjoyable and impact our life more positively if we actually knew the purpose to why we where doing what we were doing, what our motivation was, that we found a way to use and combine our gifts, talents, skills and strengths that makes sense and meaningful – at the very least to us and impacts the world – even if it’s just our small corner of it.
WHAT ARE YOU CALLED TO CREATE, LEAD, DELIVER, START, OVER, SHARE, MAKE, DEVELOP, GIVE ...
Maybe you have a project you want to put into action? Perhaps a creative talent and skill you want to take further than a hobby? A fundraising idea? Write a book, do stand-up comedy, rescue kittens from Russia? It could be a career shift, a new piece of learning, go self-employed. Perhaps you are in the corporate world and want to switch to not-for-profit.
What's stopping you? Is it fear? Maybe self-doubt or you aren't sure what to do first? A lack of clarity? Not got the time? Or not sure how to start, who to ask for help or where to begin?
What could happen if you began? What won't happen if you don't at least try?
You probably know that decision to create what you are called to create is not something that happens overnight. In my experience working with people, it brews, bubbles and simmers under the surface.
I believe that work that aligns with your core is more than following a passion.
I believe work that aligns with your core is about mastering and being competent in a skill, or set of skills that are valuable to you, or to others. But it runs deeper. It's what brings meaning to all your life.
I also believe that work that is aligned with who you are is about the benefits, results and rewards you get from completing the tasks and activities.
- What are you masterful at?
- Where do you add the most value?
- What tasks and activities give you more satisfaction, achievement, autonomy and personal success than any other?
- What would you do if everything else was taken care of?
- When do you forget to eat, and wait to the last minute to use the loo because you are so engrossed in what you are doing, what is it?
DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO THE COURSE
It’s about giving yourself time to explore who you are, what matters to you, what you are mastery at and taking action.
It’s about you working out what is meaningful, important, what makes you tick, what adds to your happiness. It’s a journey. It’s a process. It’s about looking inward so you can plan and take action on the outward.
It’s about listening to your own self, not the maps and routes others had planned for you. It’s about getting really excited about what is possible for you.

THE COURSE: WEEK-BY-WEEK
What you'll cover:
Week One: Pre-course & What Should You Be Doing?
The first week is an exploring week, you will look at where you've been, where you would like to go next and what's stopped you until now. You dive into your core values, look at 'who's truth' you've been telling and we'll look at the threads of what has been tying your life together so far and the story you've been telling and what to tell.
Week Two: New Beginnings & Getting Started
Carrying on from week 1 you will address the fears, doubts, and worries you have about doing what you love. We'll look at the intersection of what you love, what comes naturally to you and how you can bring it alive. This week you'll also set some goals and intentions, look at the risks and begin to write your mission for your life.
Week Three: Great Work V’s Work
This is the week of declaration. You owning your gifts and talents. To begin we will look at the difference between work and great work. Then you will get rid (or at least begin) to sort out your 'Yeah, Buts' to doing the work you love. You will explore your 'art'.
Week Four: The Design (You, The Brand)
No two human beings have the same skills, gifts, talents, wants, priorities, circumstances or loves. The design of your new career path, work move, job search, finding your passion will be unique to you. With this week's lessons and materials you will work through a series of exercises that will cut through the clutter, and help you identify, explore, devise your own plan.
Week Five: Relationships & Connection
We can all make an impact. Whether you are discovering how to do your love work, exploring possibilities and opportunities, identifying others who can assist you, or considering your own business you have to be able to reach out (in the right way) to others. People love to connect and this week is all about building and maintaining great relationships.
Week Six: Salary to Solopreneur
Perhaps you are thinking of starting your own business, or maybe you are looking at creating a side hustle while you have other commitments, this week will help you explore your options, show you how to make safe moves, and talk about entrepreneurship. This lesson can be used by everyone – entrepreneurial skills aren’t reserved for those working for themselves.
Week Seven: The Roadmap & Details
After the first 6 weeks of exploring you will begin to formulate a plan of action. For this week we focus on careers guidance tools and techniques, with opportunity for you to receive some help and guidance on what you are working on from myself.
Week Eight: Bring It All Together (Wholeness)
This last week is about bringing everything together, how to stay on track but more importantly how you stay healthy and well in the process. The line between the personal and the professional has long gone, this week brings it all together, you as a whole person.
You will receive lessons, tools, powerful prompts and questions, and exercises that will help you explore:
- Who are you (values, beliefs, loves, core)?
- What's important to you (at this time in your life)?
- What do you really want to create, make, do, be (declaring your gifts and talents)?
- What's stopping you (identifying and finding solutions to the hurdles and obstacles - real and imaginary - in your way)?
- What do you need (asking for help, finding resources, making connections)?
- What's your plan (designing your own way)?
- What are your first steps (action and support for the journey)?
